What Is Orach Mishor?
Orach Mishor - Torah Study for a Flat World - is an educational institution providing advanced Torah study opportunities to outstanding young men and women. We strive to eliminate such barriers to participation as cost and geographical limitations. Students can attend our courses both in person (in Israel) and worldwide, through our use of telepresence technologies. This allows us to build a heterogeneous and diverse student body, who all share a deep commitment to Judaism and Torah learning alongside their productive involvement in contemporary society.
Literally, "Orach Mishor" means a "flat path". The name refers to our goal of providing Torah education in a flat world.
It is derived from the verse:
בכל דרכיך דעהו והוא יישר ארחותיך
Know Him in all your ways, and He will straighten your paths. (Proverbs, 3:6)
This verse describes the ideal of multifaceted, comprehensive religious life, lived through "all ways". We are proud to facilitate advanced Torah studies for students who are concurrently pursuing advanced education and careers in a variety of secular fields.
The Gemara at the end of Brachot relates: "Bar Kapara taught: What is a verse on which all the disciplines of Torah hinge? Know Him in all your ways, and He will straighten your paths." This passage expresses another of our ideals, that our involvement in the detailed study and practice of the minute laws of the Torah should lead to genuine ethical growth, the "straightening of our paths" which is our most fundamental obligation, and upon which everything ultimately hinges.
